Introduction

SYSMark is a hardware performance evaluation tool launched by BAPCo to test the commercial and production performance of computers. It has been released with SYSMark2000, SYSMark2002, SYSMark2004, SYSMark2007, SYSMark2012, SYSMark2014, and SYSMark2018, with the latest version being SYSMark25.

The SYSMark series software obtains computer performance data by using realistic and relevant application software and simulating the operations of real users on the computer.

SYSMark 2007

From SYSMark 2000 to SYSMark 2004, without calculating the Patch and Second Edition versions, the SYSMark series has undergone three version upgrades, which is obviously related to the replacement of mainstream operating systems at that time. Therefore, when Windows Vista began to dance its colorful steps, the SYSMark series also began its fourth upgrade journey. On April 18, 2007, in San Mateo, California, the BAPCo organization officially released the latest version of the SYSMark series of hardware performance evaluation tools - the SYSMark 2007 Preview.

Analysis of SYSMark2007 Test Scenarios

The SYSMark 2007 Preview hardware performance evaluation tool includes four sets of test scenarios: E-Learning, Office Productivity, Video Creation, and 3D Modeling. This is significantly more complex than the two sets of Internet Content Creation and Office Productivity in the SYSMark 2004 Second Edition. Of course, due to the fact that each of the two sub items in the latter includes three sets of sub items, the SYSMark 2004 Second Edition has a richer score, reaching as many as nine sets, while the SYSMark 2007 Preview has been reduced to five sets.

The 3D Modeling scenario will use the following software:

AutoDesk 3ds Max 8

SketchUp 5

For the above application software, as SYSMark 2007 Preview will use a customized version for them during the installation process, in order to ensure the smooth progress of the entire test, users should not install the above software before the installation of SYSMark 2007 Preview, and SYSMark 2007 Preview will also provide corresponding prompts. Meanwhile, the SYSMark 2007 Preview is not compatible with the old versions of SYSMark and MobileMark, and it needs to be uninstalled to successfully complete the installation of the new version.

SYSMark2007 Hardware Requirements Analysis

Any hardware performance evaluation tool inevitably encounters the same problem: it has a bias towards a certain class or manufacturer of hardware products, even the most recognized and authoritative SYSMark series is no exception. AMD has clearly pointed out that SYSMark 2002 has biases in design, resulting in Intel's products having a greater advantage in test results, which also led AMD to join the BAPCo organization in 2002. In fact, in the BAPCo organization, each member has only one vote in order to produce the most objective testing standards, whether it is Intel, AMD, or other members.

The replacement of software versions often puts higher requirements on hardware systems, especially for software that is a hardware performance evaluation tool. This is evident from the minimum system configuration of the SYSMark 2007 Preview and SYSMark 2004 SE.

The SYSMark 2007 Preview requires an Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz or AMD Athlon 64 2800+level CPU, 1GB or more of memory capacity, and 30GB or more of idle hard disk space. This can only be described as "terrifying" compared to the Pentium 3 650MHz processor, 256MB of memory capacity, and 7GB of idle hard disk space in the SYSMark 2004 SE. Of course, you also need a DVD drive to complete the installation of the SYSMark 2007 Preview.
