Introduction

SUSE Studio is an application builder launched by SUSE company. It is simple and easy-to-use, based on a web interface, and can run in a browser without the need for additional software installation.

The great feature of SUSE Studio is its Testdrive function, which allows users to directly launch, configure, and test applications in the browser without the need for additional downloads.

SUSE Studio can integrate applications, configuration files, and operating systems into a single image, which can be deployed on any hardware that meets industry standards.

SUSE Studio is a key component of the SUSE Appliance Program project, which is a comprehensive commercial and technical project that helps independent software vendors (ISVs) simplify the creation of software devices, reduce development and support costs, and extend their applications to the cloud.

SUSE Studio is currently the only solution that can easily create portable application stacks in just a few minutes, and can deploy these application stacks to anywhere, including private and public cloud environments.

On August 3, 2009, SUSE Studio 1.0 was released - an user-friendly web service that allows users to customize Linux distributions and output live CDs, USB, Xen, or VMware images.

Users can add any repository, package, and file within the distribution. A novice can complete the entire program customization and creation process in approximately 10 minutes. Novell has also released a Flash based "test drive" service that allows users to test customized distributions before downloading images.

On July 21, 2011, SUSE Studio 1.2 was released.
