Introduction
Moment of Inspiration (moi3d) is a slightly different CAD software. It focuses on ease of use and is a great tool for designers and artists who want to build precise models. Boolean and 2D contour curve driven workflows are excellent auxiliary modeling tools for rendering/DCC projects. A mesh export software that supports n-shaped mesh generation.
Very suitable for 3D printing.
Many new features and improvements, including 64 bit and native Mac versions.
New features in version 4- highlights:
V4 has undergone a significant rewrite from V3 to cross platform code libraries.
64 bit versions for Windows and Mac.
Native Mac version, compatible with new operating systems.
Multi core processing for opening CAD files - loading objects from 3DM, STEP, IGES, and SAT files will now use multiple CPU cores to process loaded objects, greatly improving speed.
The display engine has been updated to utilize modern GPUs with a large amount of VRAM. Display data is now cached in the VRAM of GPUs, which makes the redrawing speed of large files faster.
The method for converting polygon Sub-d surfaces to NURBS can be used in the side pane under "SubD>Create>From" file. This allows you to open a. obj file that contains sub d control polygon frames and convert them into high-quality NURBS objects in MoI.
This implements a hybrid workflow where you can create base surfaces for objects in the sub d modeling program, then introduce them into MoI and continue to use CAD tools for processing.
Annotation Object - Use the 7 new commands in the "Dimensions" tab of the side pane to add dimensions and text to the model for use in 2D documents.
The DimHorizontal command creates linear annotations along the x-axis direction of the construction plane:
The DimVertical command creates a linear annotation along the y-axis direction of the construction plane:
The "DimAligned" command can create linear annotations along any direction on the construction plane:
The Dimradius command creates radius annotations on circular or arc curves:
The DimAngle command creates angle annotations on the construction plane:
The "Leader" command creates a leader object, which is a text label with an arrow:
The AnnotationText command creates an annotation text object that is itself a text box without an arrow:
New Detailed Object Properties dialog box. Provide additional information about object types and allow calculation of curve length, surface area or volume of surfaces or solids, as well as adjusting the properties of annotation objects。
DXF import - supports reading layers and importing/exporting annotation entities. Now supports importing text, MTEXT, LEADER, and DIMENSION (linear, angle, radius/diameter subtypes). MoI will export annotations to multiline text, leaders, and DIMENSION entities。
In addition to the radius/diameter of the circle drawing command, a perimeter field has also been added.
Add the length field to the ArcCenter command.
Adjust the size of the scene browser pane by dragging its edges.
Update FBX export - FBX version, object names, and materials. Add the option to use the FBX version in the Options dialog box>Import/Export>FBX Options>FBX Version. The object name will now be written to the FBX file, rather than just the generic "object1" and "object2"... The name and style are now written as materials in FBX export.
