Navicat has released Navicat On Prem Server 3.0. It includes some new features that are expected to help promote better collaboration within the team. There are four main characteristics:
Added support for PostgreSQL and Fujitsu Enterprise Postgres connections.
The query editor has been enhanced, including code completion, code folding, and SQL beautification features.
Expanded the filtering function of objects.
Improved the 'New Connection' dialog box.
In today's blog, we will review Navicat On Prem Server 3.0 and evaluate how the above features can help manage MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL instances more effectively than ever before.
Upgrade to version 3.0
Upgrading to Navicat On Prem Server 3.0 is a fairly simple process:
Firstly, go to the download page and find the installation file that matches your operating system.
Before running the installation program, please make sure to uninstall the previous version of Navicat On Prem Server.
Now you are ready to execute the installation program.
After installation, a browser with an installation page is usually opened. If not, you can right-click on the application icon in the bottom right corner to launch the application.
Navicat On Prem Server will remember your login credentials and all other configuration details, so you should be able to log in to the application as in previous versions.
When logging in for the first time, you will see a welcome startup screen. It will showcase all the new features in version 3.0.
Now let's delve into the new features mentioned above together.
PostgreSQL and Fujitsu Enterprise Postgres connection
If we click the "+New" button at the top of the application's home screen, a context menu containing two items will appear: "New Project" and "New Connection". Clicking on the latter will open the 'New Connection' dialog box. Looking at the connection filtering, we can see that there are many new connection types, among which the most notable is PostgreSQL. In addition, supplier screening has also been expanded to include Fujitsu, HighGo, Jincang, and others:
Enhanced Query Editor
The query editor has undergone a comprehensive transformation, including some of the most popular features in Navicat database management and development tools, as follows:
Beautify SQL: Simply click on it to automatically reformat messy or compressed SQL code into a clean, properly indented, and readable format with consistent spacing and line breaks! The generated code will be built in a way that follows standard formatting conventions, making it easier to understand and maintain.
Fixed: Retain important data snapshots and their query and timing information for continuous analysis.
All the basic features you expect are also there, including syntax highlighting, code folding, code completion, and query interpretation.
The synergistic effect of all these features will be to improve development efficiency and clarity of SQL code.
Enhanced object filtering function
Thanks to the extended object filtering feature, you can now effectively search large amounts of data to immediately locate specific objects, so important information is always within reach.
Improved 'New Connection' dialog box
You will notice that there are two new icons in the "New Connection" dialog box on the left side of the search box: they activate the grid view and list view respectively. Previously, only grid views were supported. Here is a comparison of each view type:
